Educational Program and Practice – Quality Area 1 National Quality Standards.

Koala Childcare and Kindergartens follow the Victorian Early Years Learning Framework in relation to developing the program for children.

“The Victorian Framework recognises that children’s learning and development takes place in the context of their families, and that families are children’s first and most important educators. Families provide children with the relationships, the opportunities and the experiences that shape their learning and development”.

5 outcomes of education programs

The Framework identifies 5 outcomes for all children:

  • Children have a strong sense of identity
  • Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  • Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  • Children are confident and involved learners
  • Children are effective communicators

Koala Child Care and Kindergartens use a collaborative approach. We encourage families to contribute to the planning process by offering information about their child’s interests, activities and home life. Parents/Carers are always welcome to participate in the program or volunteer special skills.

Educators will develop their program based on the children’s interests, but also include some intentional teaching and spontaneous activities. All educators are responsible for contributing to the planning process and will take various observations over the course of the child’s enrolment.

Funded Kindergarten Program

The funded kindergarten program is offered to children who turn 4 by the 30 April the year prior to attending school. Our centre’s offer a minimum of 15 hours per week and the program is planned and delivered by a suitably qualified Early Childhood Teacher.

Our teacher provides “transition reports” in the final term of the year, which they provide to the school the child will be attending. Information sessions are organised in term 1 and then again in term 4. All children participate in the end of year graduation ceremony, which is a wonderful way to celebrate the end of their kindergarten year.
